The WCO-Japan Career Development Programme (CDP) for 2023-2024 formally commenced on Friday 15 September 2023. Ten Customs officials from Cape Verde, Egypt, Guatemala, India, Kosovo, Malaysia, Rwanda, Samoa, Turkmenistan and Ukraine have successfully started their 10 months term at the WCO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. They will engaged in the research and other tasks as the Professional Associates in the Directorates at the Secretariat where they are assigned.

The WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya welcomed the selected candidates to the WCO Secretariat and expressed his expectation that they would increase their knowledge, enhance their skills, gain international work experience, and enrich their professional networks. Then, he wished them every success in this important Programme.

The CDP was launched by the WCO in cooperation with Japan Customs in 2009. It provides a unique opportunity for selected candidates from Customs administrations to work at the WCO Secretariat in a wide array of technical areas.  Over 125 officers from 78 Customs administrations have participated in the Programme to date.
