On 28 June 2025, during the 145th/146th Council Sessions, the Republic of El Salvador deposited its instrument of accession to the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (Harmonized System), with Mr. Ian Saunders, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
The WCO is pleased to welcome the Republic of El Salvador as the 162nd Contracting Party to the Harmonized System Convention and looks forward to its active participation with respect to Harmonized System-related matters.
The Republic of El Salvador has been a Member of the WCO since 7 July 2005. As a member of the Americas and Caribbean Region of the WCO, El Salvador has played an active role in the WCO Customs community, including by recently hosting a major regional WCO conference, advancing digital transformation in its customs operations, and strengthening international cooperation to enhance border security and trade facilitation.
The WCO applauds the Republic of El Salvador for further strengthening its engagement in the international development and maintenance of the global trade infrastructure through its accession to the Harmonized System Convention.
The Harmonized System Convention entered into force in El Salvador on 30 June 2025.
