HS 2028, the eighth edition of the Harmonized System (HS) Nomenclature, will enter into force on 1 January 2028. The amendments are the outcome of the 7th HS Review Cycle, reflecting six years of technical discussions and studies conducted within the WCO.

The 2017 Edition of the WCO Harmonized System Nomenclature will enter into force on 1 January 2017. It includes 233 sets of amendments, divided as follows : agricultural sector 85; chemical sector 45; wood sector 13; textile sector 15; base metal sector 6; machinery sector 25; transport sector 18; other sectors 26.

HS 2022, which is the seventh edition of the Harmonized System (HS) nomenclature, is used worldwide for the uniform classification of goods traded internationally, and has been accepted by all Contracting Parties to the Harmonized System Convention. It shall enter into force on 1 January 2022.

The HS Committee performs functions as described in Article 7 of the HS Convention. To that end, the Committee acts under the overall direction of the WCO Council and Policy Commission, with administrative support provided by the WCO Secretariat.

In coordination with the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation’s on-going initiative to support Malagasy Customs with the establishment of its Advance Ruling mechanism, the World Customs Organization delivered a capacity-building workshop on the Harmonized System and commodity classification from 7 to 11 March 2022 in Antananarivo. The workshop was sponsored by the EU-WCO Programme for Harmonized System in Africa (HS-Africa Programme).
