Customs Modernization Advisors accreditation workshop

February 2009

As part of its continued effort to deliver sustainable development support to Member administrations, the World Customs Organization (WCO) organized the first Customs Modernization Advisors accreditation workshop. The event was conducted in the context of the Columbus Programme and was held at the WCO Regional Training Centre located in Faridabad, India from February 23 to 27, 2009.

This workshop was made possible with the support of the Regional Office for Capacity Building for the Asia-Pacific Region.

The objective of the workshop was to identify and accredit individuals with experience and skills in change management, strategic planning, and organizational development to become Customs Modernization Advisors. Accredited advisors will provide direct support to WCO members in the planning and implementation of their respective reform and modernization initiatives.

The workshop also served to familiarized participants with strategic planning methodologies, as well as with key WCO instruments and standards. Fifteen participants from ten different Customs administrations in the Asia Pacific region took part in this workshop.

This type of activity demonstrates that the WCO remains committed to supporting its Member Customs administrations in facilitating and securing global trade for the socio-economic development of their country.
