At the invitation of Comptroller Frank Holder of Barbados Customs, Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya participated in the 33rd Annual Conference of the Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council (CCLEC), held in Bridgetown, Barbados from 25-27 May 2011.
CCLEC is dedicated to improving the overall professionalism of its members and comprises 39 Customs administrations in the Caribbean region, confirming the importance attached to regional cooperation.
At the opening session, Barbados' Minister of Finance Christopher Sinckler expressed his strong support for CCLEC activities. Secretary General Mikuriya concurred with him by stressing the importance of a regional Customs network such as CCLEC to protect the community while facilitating legitimate trade and enhancing cooperation.
After the annual report by CCLEC Permanent Secretary Paul Hilaire, participants discussed several issues, including human resource development; an important issue reflected in the Conference's chosen theme: "Professional Customs Management through Human Resource Development".
