WCO participates in G8 Ministerial Meeting

At the invitation of Mr. Claude Guéant, French Minister of the Interior, Overseas Territories, Local and Regional Authorities and Immigration, the WCO Deputy Secretary General, Sergio Mujica, attended the G8 Ministerial Meeting on transatlantic cocaine trafficking in Paris on 10 May 2011.
In his presentation, the Deputy Secretary General highlighted the work being undertaken by the WCO on behalf of its Members to build their capacity to combat transnational organized crime, money laundering and corruption effectively. In this regard, the WCO works in close partnership with other relevant international and regional organizations within the scope of actions and programmes to fight drug trafficking and related threats.
During the meeting, Ministers, Ambassadors and representatives of international organizations approved a Political Declaration and an Action Plan to fight against illicit drug trafficking, where the key role of the WCO was widely recognized.
