- financially supported by the Finnish Government –
1st Steering Committee meeting of WCO ESA project on Capacity Building
Nairobi, 11-12 October 2011
Following the signing of a multi-year agreement on a Capacity Building Project for the ESA region, signed between the WCO and Finland in Brussels on 8 September 2011, the 1st Steering Committee meeting now took place in Nairobi, Kenya on 11-12 October 2011.
The Steering Committee of the Project is composed of representatives from Mauritius, Kenya, South Africa, Namibia, Finland and the WCO Secretariat and has the task to oversee the Project and decide on ways forward and governance issues, as well as on concrete actions within the Project. During its first meeting, the Steering Committee, chaired by Mrs. Rose Wambui Namu, Kenyan Revenue Authority, agreed on the work plan for the first year of the 3years project within all its five sub-components: Leadership and Management Development; regional roll-out of the WCO nCEN (National Customs Enforcement Network) system; Coordinated Border Management; support for the WCO Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB) situated in Nairobi; and some country-specific support for Namibia. All participants thanked Finland for the great opportunity, provided by the Project, of now being in a much better position to implement regional priorities that were agreed by all ESA Member administrations.
