Leadership and Management Development Workshop in the Republic of the Congo - September 2013

17 septiembre 2013

Dolisie, 26 August to 6 September 2013

Under the Customs Capacity Enhancement in Sub Saharan Africa (CCEA-SSA) Project, financed by the World Bank, the World Customs Organization (WCO) delivered a 10-day Leadership and Management Development (LMD) Workshop for
mid-level and senior Congolese Customs managers.

The Workshop was held in response to the recommendations stemming from the Seminar titled "What kind of Customs do we want for the Congo?", conducted in March 2013 as part of the project to strengthen fiscal governance. That Seminar brought together Customs officials, stakeholders and Congolese Customs’ development partners and gave fresh impetus to Customs reform and modernization.

The LMD Workshop took place in Dolisie, from 26 August to 6 September 2013, and was attended by 19 middle and senior managers (7 women and 12 men) from central and regional services and from Congolese Customs’ key Customs offices. The Workshop was facilitated by two accredited experts from the WCO Secretariat.

The Workshop afforded participants an opportunity to gain a range of knowledge and skills related to leadership and management. Participants therefore spent the 10 days looking into strategic management, people management, negotiations in the workplace, communication, promotion of integrity and diversity management, closing with change management. The Workshop also gave participants a chance for self-reflection, through an understanding of their values, beliefs and behaviour with a view to ongoing improvement.

Acknowledging the importance of LMD, the Directorate General of Customs and Indirect Taxes (DGDDI) expressed its sincere gratitude to the WCO for continuing to support the Republic of the Congo and the countries of the region.
