A Practical Training for Customs officers of the Port Control Unit was conducted by WCO training experts in Laem Chabang, Thailand from 2 to 13 March 2015. This 2-week operational activity complements the Theoretical Training that was delivered by UNODC and WCO in December 2014.
Both training courses largely focus on risk assessment and profiling for the detection of illicit goods in containerized traffic and cover the core competences of a functioning Port Control Unit. They also build the fundament for additional and more specialized training, planned in the framework of the Container Control Programme.
The training experts, from Belgium Customs and WCO, lauded the commitment and professionalism of their Thai colleagues. The UNODC office in Bangkok was of great support in the organizational and logistical arrangements for both training courses.
WCO and UNODC look forward to a successful work of the new Port Control Unit in Laem Chabang.
