A National Workshop on the HS 2017 amendments and Tariff Classification was held in Lima, Peru, from 26 to 28 October 2016. The Workshop was organized jointly by the WCO and the Customs Administration of Peru (SUNAT) and was co-facilitated by Mr. Guillermo Quiroz Flores, a newly WCO Accredited HS trainer from Mexico Customs. It was attended by 35 officials from local units and the Headquarters working on tariff classification related areas.
The Workshop’s main focus was to secure uniformity in the interpretation and application of the 2017 Edition of the HS by Peru Customs. Furthermore, the Workshop offered an opportunity to discuss the WCO tools and instruments developed to assist users of the HS in order to modernize their tariff classification work and related infrastructure.
The participants were given an opportunity to report on the progress with regard to the preparatory work to implement the HS 2017 amendments, as well as to describe the situation as regards the organization of the classification work in Peru. In this connection, Peru foresees no difficulties with the implementation of the complementary 2018 amendments also as from 1 January 2017.
The Workshop provided an excellent opportunity for networking and exchange of views on a wide range of topics on tariff classification and management of tariff and statistical nomenclatures, and was highly appreciated by those who attended.
