The World Customs Organization (WCO) held its first Global Integrity Experts Meeting from 23-26 October 2018, with funding support from the China Customs Cooperation Fund. The primary objective of this meeting was to support the growing needs expressed by Member administrations for assistance in implementing the Revised Arusha Declaration on Integrity. The WCO Integrity Programme aims to support Customs administrations in their efforts to improve integrity and devise effective strategies to fight against corruption.
The workshop was conducted through a twofold approach during the meeting in order to achieve the objective of enhancing the knowledge of Member integrity experts, along with identifying and training new experts.
Activities over the course of the 4-day agenda familiarized participants with the latest WCO integrity tools and activities; highlighted the synergies between the Integrity agenda, Mercator Programme and other WCO tools and instruments (i.e., Risk Management and Human Resource Management).
The Global Integrity Experts Meeting also created a forum for active discussion among experts regarding important considerations when delivering WCO Integrity related missions and discussed key actions that can be taken to help meet Member’s needs for assistance in implementing the Revised Arusha Declaration on Integrity.
