Under the auspices of the WCO/JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Joint Project, West African Customs administrations have been making collective efforts in building a pool of experts and developing training materials to be used for more sustainable capacity building in West Africa.  Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo have participated in the MTP and are currently progressing in developing their trainers’ capacity on Risk Management (RM) and Intelligence Analysis (IA) to further strengthen intelligence-driven RM in West Africa.

Eighteen (18) participants are taking part in a series of progressive activities organized under the MTP. Through these activities, the participants have improved their knowledge and expertise not only on RM and IA but also on training techniques and competences in order to become Master Trainers.  Despite the COVID-19 prevalence over all continents,  through the continued efforts, the participants from the six administrations have met virtually almost every week since September to ensure the continuous development of their training skills and materials with the support of facilitators and experts from the WCO, JICA and Japan Customs.

During 10 sessions the participants of this Virtual Working Group (VWG) have completed the first phase of the virtual work with notable outputs. The reviewed training materials developed with the support and advice/suggestions offered by the experts and facilitators will be available in English and in French. The remaining work is expected to be completed in the phase 2, scheduled to take place in February/March next year

The WCO, JICA and Japan Customs are committed to offering coordinated support for the MTP.
