A diagnostic mission and an implementation mission were conducted in Malawi in May 2019 and February 2020 respectively under the auspices of the World Customs Organization (WCO) INAMA Project. The activities were funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The diagnostic mission had the objective to assess the Risk Management capacity of the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), in particular in the field of Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT). During the implementation mission, the experts trained and worked together with MRA Head Office and Port officers to, amongst others, develop Risk Profiles.
The implementation mission to Malawi marks the end of this phase of the GIZ component of the INAMA Project. Representatives from Malawi, Nigeria and Vietnam will gather in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 02 to 06 March 2020 for a Risk Management Workshop focused on the development of generic and specific risk profiles and indicators in the field of IWT.
The INAMA Project aims to strengthen the enforcement capacities of targeted Customs administrations in the field of IWT, focusing specifically on the species listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
