From 20 to 22 September, within the framework of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP), the Customs Administration of Peru exchanged best practices with the Customs Administration of Bolivia on Risk Management (RM) and Customs Laboratory.
The Customs Director of SUNAT welcomed the study visit to Peru, bringing together twelve customs officials from Bolivia with their counterparts from Peru. Participants were highly engaged in strengthening their capacities regarding risk management and laboratory.
Bolivia requested the in-country visit to learn from the Peruvian experiences on establishing a risk-based selectivity. Among the outcomes were identified areas of opportunity in the current RM procedures and an enhanced understanding of challenges towards boosting testing procedures.
The WCO has highlighted sustainability as essential for its Programmes, and peer-to-peer collaboration among beneficiary countries is one of GTFP’s strategies to ensure the continuity of the outcomes.
Bolivia and Peru are part of the four initial beneficiary countries of the GTFP in 2018, and the Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP) currently supports fifteen countries, with funding from SECO.
