The World Customs Organization organized, with the support of the Customs Cooperation Fund of Japan(CCF/JAPAN), and in collaboration with Thai Customs and the Regional Office for Capacity Building of Asia Pacific Region, a Sub-regional Workshop on Customs Valuation for the benefit of ASEAN Members.
Twenty four Customs officials, including four observers, took part. The participants from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, who included 11 women and 13 men, attended the workshop held at the RTC in Bangkok, Thailand from 29 May to 2 June 2023. The Workshop was co-facilitated by an expert from WCO Secretariat and two pre-accredited expert trainers on Customs valuation from Japan.
The Deputy Director of Thai Customs, Mrs. Nunthita Sirikup, who officially opened the Workshop highlighted the importance of Customs valuation in revenue collection and the opportunity that this workshop provides to enhance the knowledge of Customs officials of the region in this area. She also expressed her deep appreciation to the WCO Secretariat and to the CCF/Japan in supporting this workshop.
The Workshop covered a range of fundamental topics related to Customs valuation, including the principles of WTO Customs Valuation Agreement, the transaction value method as well as the alternative methods and an introduction to transfer pricing and Customs valuation.
Participants examined case studies and national implementing challenges to reinforce and apply the knowledge gained during the workshop.
Participants were encouraged to apply what they learned from the workshop in their work and share the knowledge gained to their colleagues in their respective administration.
