The World Customs Organization (WCO) on its ongoing support to enhance Intelligence driven Risk Management capabilities within the Antigua and Barbuda Customs and Excise Department (AB-CED) conducted a workshop on Risk Assessment and Selectivity from 21 to 25 October 2019 in St. Johns, Antigua. The workshop was attended by some 26 officials from risk management, port, airport and other units. This second workshop was made possible through the support and sponsorship of the HMRC fund.
The main focus of the workshop was to further assist AB-CED in the area of Risk Management to boost its institutional capacity for effective improvement in risk assessment, profiling and targeting methodologies. This workshop also provided AB-CED the support in finalising its organisation risk management framework and register in order to ensure sustainability of the implementation of Risk Management within the department in the longer term.
During the various sessions of the 5 day workshop, participants were exposed to the risk management compendium and various WCO tools and instruments. The participants were very interactive and fully engaged in the discussions with the experts during theoretical sessions which were followed by hands-on practical exercises and case studies. The participants learnt the different techniques in applying intelligent- driven Risk Management for the benefit of the organization.
