On April 20th and 21st Guatemala Customs hosted and facilitated an AEO Workshop in Guatemala City, Guatemala that would outline to the trade the advances they made in developing their AEO program. The workshop totaled approximately forty-five members from private sector representing the different industrial sectors, associations and unions. In attendance, representatives from the World Customs Organization (WCO) and US CBP Customs and Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) to assist with presentations and facilitating part of the workshop.

The workshop outlined the research, developments and processes that Guatemala Customs has put together to design their AEO program. After presentation by those responsible explaining the methodology of their process and their findings, including a questionnaire that was developed to verify supply chain security, the workshop was divided into working groups that would review the material. The private sector was enthusiastic with the Guatemala Customs presentations and found the questionnaire very appropriate, many expressing an interest in participating in the upcoming pilot.

Participants found the workshop very informative and appreciated the work that Guatemala Customs put into researching and designing the program. All involved would like to see that an official program is launched in a year’s time.
