AEO Workshop in the Dominican Republic
16 to 19 November 2009
On 16 November 2009, with participation by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the WCO held a Workshop in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) to review Pillar II of the WCO SAFE Framework of Standards, better known as the AEO Programme. The Dominican Republic is one of five administrations currently working on the development and implementation of the AEO Programme with the IADB and Spain’s Revenue Service. The Dominican Republic Customs Administration had requested the WCO’s support with this implementation process.
The three-day Workshop covered standards and realities of implementation. It also encompassed the economic benefits gained by administrations when implementing a Programme that addresses competitiveness in today’s global market. The fourth day consisted of a presentation given to the private sector during a lunchtime seminar, attended by approximately one hundred private sector representatives. This seminar provided essential information on the AEO concept.
