Report

At the invitation of Andrei Belyaninov, Director General of the Russian Federal Customs Service, WCO Deputy Secretary General Sergio Mujica participated in the opening ceremony of the Customs Service 2010 Exhibition in Moscow on 20 October. The WCO was also invited to set up a stand to promote the work of the Organization.

This year’s Exhibition is a practical example of the Federal Customs Service’s contribution to enhancing the Customs-Business Partnership and promoting the use of technology by Customs, both key building blocks in the WCO Customs in the 21st Century vision. A Customs-Business Dialogue meeting complemented the Exhibition.

The Deputy Secretary General also had a bilateral meeting with the Russian Director General. They discussed the priorities and activities of the Federal Customs Service including progress with the Customs Union that had been established between Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. In addition they discussed possibilities for further cooperation between the WCO and Russian Customs particularly with respect to capacity building.

Mr. Belyaninov and Mr. Mujica later signed an MOU between the WCO and the Federal Customs Service to promote cooperation in the development and provision of world-class Customs training, education, capacity building and research.
