ESA - Regional Accreditation Workshop for Expert Trainers in Customs Valuation
Harare, 10-14 January 2011
In order to increase the assistance provided to its Members and to develop its external resources, the Secretariat organized a regional accreditation workshop for expert trainers in Customs Valuation at the Regional Training Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 10 to 14 January 2011. The main objective of this workshop, which was intended for all Members within the East and South Africa Region, was to set up a regional pool of high-level experts in Customs Valuation, qualified in capacity building and the training domain and capable of conducting training activities at international level following the WCO standards.
Twelve pre-selected candidates from ten different administrations participated in the five-day workshop, which was delivered by two WCO facilitators and which was financially supported by CCF Japan. The sessions consisted of discussions about key Customs Valuation issues and the training concepts recommended by the WCO. They were also refreshed on all the tools and instruments available for them as WCO experts and the techniques on how to be a good Valuation trainer. They were assessed on the 4th day when each participant led a WCO training session on Customs Valuation.
From the results of the workshop, the WCO facilitators decided that five participants would be granted WCO accreditation as an expert trainer on Customs Valuation. All participants profited from the Workshop and received guidance on their personal performance throughout the whole workshop and also on human resource development. The WCO Secretariat is very grateful for the commitment shown by participants, Members and the RTC and convinced that the newly appointed trainers will bring benefit to the Valuation training in the region.
