WCO and World Anti-Doping Agency agree on further collaboration

Montreal, 15 March 2011

Report

Secretary General of the WCO, Kunio Mikuriya, and Director General of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), David Howman, met in Montreal, Canada on 15 March 2011 at the Agency’s headquarters to discuss ways in which the two organizations could collaborate on issues of mutual interest.

WADA was established in 1999 as an international independent agency composed and funded equally by the sport movement and governments of the world with a mission to promote, coordinate and monitor the fight against doping in sport in all its forms.

As the WCO and WADA are both committed to ensuring that illegal and prohibited substances are effectively enforced, the two organizations have agreed to pursue the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding as a concrete basis for further cooperation and enhanced enforcement.

The meeting between Secretary General Mikuriya and Director General Howman is part of the WCO's active strategy to promote partnerships with its private and public stakeholders as a means to protect society as well assecure and facilitate global trade.
