Tanzania committed to Customs modernization

At the invitation of the Commissioner of Customs, Walid Juma, the WCO Deputy Secretary General, Sergio Mujica, visited Tanzania Customs on 1 June 2012 to discuss the WCO's latest initiatives and Tanzania's continuing Customs modernization programme.
During the visit, Deputy Secretary General Mujica visited the port of Dar Es Salaam and participated in a working meeting with Tanzania's Customs management team who appreciated his support.
During his Mission to Tanzania, the Deputy Secretary General also participated in the 2012 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank in Arusha, specifically the Aid for Trade and Regional Integration side event: Removing Barriers to Regional Trade Integration.
The high level panel included Valentine Rugwabiza, Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Akihiko Tanaka, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and senior representatives from the African Union Commission (AUC), the East African Community (EAC), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
