The WCO Secretariat received delegates from the Customs Administration of Mongolia (Mongolia Customs) and the Tax and Customs Administration of the Netherlands (Dutch Customs) in Brussels on 21 March 2012, and organized a session on Risk Management. This visit was realized under the Tripartite Cooperation Framework between Mongolia Customs, Dutch Customs and the WCO.[*] The session aimed at supporting the Risk Management function in Mongolia Customs, and providing guidance on WCO tools and instruments in this area.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Erich Kieck, WCO Director for Capacity Building, welcomed the participants under the framework of the tripartite cooperation, and emphasized the importance of Risk Management as a key component in all Customs work areas. During the following working session with several WCO officials, participants were able to deepen the understanding of the WCO Risk Management Compendium, of the new Customs Enforcement Network (CEN), the national CEN (nCEN) and CENcomm, as well as of the practical guidelines on valuation control, in particular the section dealing with the development and use of a valuation database as a risk assessment tool.

The delegates also had a chance to pay a courtesy visit to Mr. Kunio Mikuriya, WCO Secretary General. The delegation of Mongolia Customs expressed its high appreciation for organizing this session, and stated that the session was indeed useful for them to further develop an effective Risk Management framework.
