Argentina’s Vice President supports WCO Revised Kyoto Convention

The Deputy Secretary General of the WCO, Sergio Mujica, visits Argentina to hold discussions on 7 and 8 November 2012 with political leaders and Customs management on Customs modernization and its contribution to economic development, at the invitation of Ricardo Echegaray, the Federal Administrator of Public Revenue, and Siomara Ayeran, the Director General of Customs.

During the meeting with the Federal Administrator of Public Revenue (AFIP) and his management team, the main topics discussed where the various initiatives AFIP is implementing to continue its modernization programme and the leadership and commitment Argentina is taking to further develop capacity building initiatives in the Americas and Caribbean region.

At a later meeting with the Argentina Chamber of Commerce, which was founded in 1927 and represents more than 800 regional and sectoral Chambers in the country, participants highlighted the key role of Customs in contributing to economic competitiveness and the importance of a partnership with business.

The Vice President of Argentina and the President of the Senate, Amado Boudou, received the Deputy Secretary General Mujica who explained the benefits of acceding to the Revised Kyoto Convention (RKC). In this regard, the Vice President mentioned the House of Representatives in Argentina had already approved the RKC and that he would support and expedite the discussion in the Senate.
