The Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Kunio Mikuriya, has been listed in Global Tax 50, the International Tax Review’s annual selection of individuals and organizations they believe have made a substantial impact on tax practice and administration in the last 12 months.

Notable leaders on the list include the President of Chile, the President of France, Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer, India’s Minister of Finance, Mauritius’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Chairman of the US Senate Finance Committee, the European Commissioner for Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Anti-Fraud, and GSK’s Chief Executive Officer.

“It is a great privilege to have been listed in this year’s Global Tax 50,” said WCO Secretary General, Kunio Mikuriya. “Equally significant is the recognition by the international tax community of the critical work being done by Customs worldwide at borders, and the global standards developed by the WCO to secure and facilitate international trade,” added Mikuriya.

The WCO has a long history of cooperating with its international and regional tax partners, including the Centre for Tax Policy and Administration at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, as well as the African Tax Administration Forum and the OECD Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes.

Areas of cooperation include transfer pricing and Customs valuation, compliance and enforcement issues, as well as information exchange and risk management, and the WCO’s active efforts to promote coordinated border management, strengthen Customs-Business partnerships and build sustainable capacity in Customs.
