Mozambique becomes the 145th Contracting Party to the Harmonized System Convention

The Republic of Mozambique deposited its instrument of accession to the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (Harmonized System) with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) on 11 October 2012.
Considering that more than 98% of international merchandise trade is classified in terms of the Harmonized System, the WCO is pleased to welcome Bosnia and Herzegovina as the 144th Contracting Party to the Harmonized System Convention. Mozambique is located on the east coast of the African continent, sharing borders with South Africa, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania.
Its principal export commodities are aluminium, prawns, cashews, cotton, sugar, citrus and timber, as well as bulk electricity. Machinery and equipment, vehicles, fuel, chemicals, metal products and textiles are its principal import commodities. The Harmonized System Convention will enter into force in Mozambique on 1 January 2014. Mozambique has been a Member of the WCO since 1 July 1987.
