The Sudan Customs Authority, in cooperation with the World Customs Organization (WCO), organized a National Workshop on the Time Release Study (TRS) in Khartoum, Sudan, from 22nd to 26th February 2015. The event was held under the sponsorship of the WCO Eurocustoms funds. More than 20 participants from the Sudanese Customs Administration and representatives from various Government Agencies involved in clearance processes, together with Customs Brokers and representatives from the Private Sector participated in the Workshop. The WCO was represented by two experts, including a TRS expert from the Kenya Revenue Authority.
Mr. Abdelhafiez Salih ALI, Director for Compliance and Facilitation of the Sudanese Customs Authority, welcomed participants and pointed out that the Sudan Customs Authority had been successfully introducing a number of reforms, including the implementation of an electronic system, an update of the Customs law, and the introduction of a national Authorized Economic Operator Program. He also underscored the significance of a partnership approach with their national stakeholders in achieving those results.
The workshop allowed the participants to have discussions against their respective background and responsibilities on the best way for the country to conduct a TRS. On the last day of the workshop, the Sudan Customs officials and the national stakeholders finalized a road-map with several activities that will be executed to ensure a smooth implementation of the upcoming Sudan national TRS. The TRS is envisaged to be carried out in the course of the coming months.
