From 28 November – 9 December, a WCO training expert and a specialist of Portugal Customs conducted the first Regional Theoretical Training in Lima / Peru. Peru just joined the UNODC-WCO Container Control Programme (CCP), agreements with Argentina and Brazil are close to signature.
This training marks the first step of a 3-year cooperation between UNODC, WCO and these important Latin American countries in establishing dedicated Port Control Units to tackle illicit trade in containerized trade.
Currently, Port Control Units established in the framework of the CCP are operational in 34 countries; funding for additional 20 countries has been granted by the donors of this joint UNODC-WCO initiative.
The implementation of the Container Control Programme in Peru is funded by Global Affairs Canada, activities in Argentina and Brazil are financially supported by US Department of State - Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS) and Global Affairs Canada.
