From 14 – 18 December 2015, the WCO – WACAM Project, sponsored by Sweden, invited identified change agents for Human Resource Management modernization efforts from West and Central Africa to the WCO headquarters in Brussels in order to consolidate their capacities in the area of competency based Human Resource Management. This workshop was a logical follow-up of the regional workshop carried out in May 2015 in Abidjan and the subsequent national support missions in selected Member-Administrations undertaken since under the WACAM Project.

Customs officers from five countries, namely Cameroon, Gabon, The Gambia, Mauritania and Senegal benefited from this workshop. Throughout the workshop, the participants were able to go through lecture sessions on HRM concepts, tools and methodologies as well as through concrete exercises and role plays to ensure that they have effectively built new capacities.　 Additionally, the workshop provided the participants to share their experience of HRM modernization efforts at the national level and identify common success factors and challenges.　

The participants have now committed to further lead their national and regional HRM modernization efforts in 2016.
