The WCO, with the sponsorship of Qatar Customs, organized a Regional (MENA) Risk Assessment and Selectivity Workshop in Doha, Qatar from 3 to 6 April 2017. The workshop was attended by 53 participants from 11 countries in the WCO MENA region.
Mr. Mubarak Ibrahim Al Boainin, Director of Training Center, welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of risk-based selectivity as well as trade facilitation and effective resource allocation.
The workshop focused on Risk Assessment and Profiling in order to enhance existing selectivity practices. Essential elements of the effective risk assessment were also one of the agenda items. Most of the sessions were followed by group works, discussions and case studies.
Throughout the Workshop, participants discussed how to identify and address risks as well as how to develop an effective profile by using the methodology explained in the WCO Customs Risk Management Compendium. Case studies and practical exercises also contributed to their further understanding of the various topics.
Country presentations, on the other hand, created a platform to share good practices, discuss challenges and possible solutions.
