In July 2017, on the margins of the World Customs Organization (WCO) 129^th/130^th Council Sessions, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) signed bilateral Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA) with the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) and the Israel Tax Authority (ITA) in Brussels, Belgium. CBSA President John Ossowski signed the MRAs with the Australian Border Force Acting Commissioner Michael Outram and ITA Director General Moshe Asher respectively.

In line with the WCO’s Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade (SAFE Framework), each MRA signifies that both countries apply similar security standards and site validations practices when approving companies for membership in their respective programs, thereby increasing the international network of recognized low-risk trusted traders. As a result of the recent MRA signings, the CBSA's Partners in Protection program members will be recognized by, and receive trade facilitation benefits from the DIBP and ITA. The CBSA will reciprocate by providing similar benefits to members of the Australian Trusted Trader program and Israel's Authorized Economic Operator program. Signing MRAs with international partners represents a major component of the CBSA’s strategies to advance global border management and strengthen trade relations without compromising on security.
