Qatar Hosts a National Workshop on Intelligence Management

The WCO, with the sponsorship of Qatar Customs, organized a National Workshop on Intelligence Management in Doha, Qatar from 1 to 4 May 2017. The workshop was attended by 22 participants from the Headquarters and field-level.

The workshop focused on intelligence management to support Customs decision making processes as well as existing risk management practices. Essential elements of the effective risk assessment were also one of the agenda items. In addition, the workshop included group works, practical exercises and case studies. Each session was followed by questions and answers.

This workshop gave the participants the opportunity to better understand the role of intelligence and risk management with regards to the enforcement, security and facilitation requirements of a Customs administration.

During the 4-day workshop, participants discussed how to collect and analyze information in order to produce several intelligence products. They also discussed how to develop an effective profile by using the methodology explained in the WCO Customs Risk Management Compendium. Case studies and practical exercises also contributed to their further understanding of the various topics.

Mr. Mubarak Khalaf Al Boainain, Head of Training and Continuing Education Department, during his closing remarks, underlined the importance of intelligence and risk management as well as trade facilitation and effective resource allocation.
