9th TFAWG to hold meeting on 15 and 16 February 2018

18 января 2018

The Ninth Meeting of the WCO Working Group on the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFAWG) will take place at the WCO Headquarters (30, rue du Marché, 1210 Brussels), from Thursday 15 February at 9h30 to Friday 16 February 2018 at 16h30, and will be held in English and French, with Spanish interpretation.

The Meeting will bring together WCO Members, represented by Customs administrations and relevant ministries, as well as Trade negotiators from Geneva, donors and other relevant stakeholders such as other global-standard-setting bodies and the private sector.

The draft Agenda of the Meeting includes an update of developments in the WTO regarding the TFA; a breakout session to discuss the monitoring function of the TFAWG; the Terms of Reference of the TFAWG; coordination by Members with Permanent Missions to the WTO to encourage WCO participation in the WTO Trade Facilitation Committee, the promotion of the importance of Coordinated Border Management (CBM): Public-Private Sector dialogue and relevant WCO tools in the context of National Committees on Trade Facilitation (NCTFs); enhanced coordination with other governmental agencies, such as sanitary authorities for the purpose of implementing the TFA and coordinating the prioritizing of technical assistance and capacity building; and the Mercator Programme, the WCO’s capacity building programme to support Members in implementing the TFA.

The invitation and agenda were sent just before Christmas but since then quite a few queries were received about these. Apparently the communication did not reach all intended recipients. We have decided to extend the registration period until 10 February 2018 and we invite Members to register, using the WCO registration system. The Members’ invitation is available here. We equally invite PSCG Members to register through the WCO registration system. The PSCG invitation is available here.

Observers and others who normally attend the TFAWG and have not yet received an invitation are invited to contact Mr. Theo Hesselink (e-mail: theo.hesselink@wcoomd.org).
