As part of the COPES Programme, the sixth so far awareness regional seminar, organized in partnership with Japan Customs, took place from 14 to 16 May 2019 in Tokyo Narita. The event brought together Customs Senior Officers from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam and Samoa.
The aim of the COPES regional seminar was to raise awareness of the invited Members about the importance of knowing about evidence collection, seizures in order to be able to lead effective investigations and prosecutions and to raise awareness of the importance of border security.
During this seminar we had the opportunity to welcome one representative of the COPES Programme donor, the Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Mr. Ransom Avilla, as well as two representatives of the United States Customs and Border Protection (US CBP), Mr. Brendan O’Hearn and Mr. Tetsuya Uezato.
