Under the framework of the Agreement between the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Bahamas Customs and Excise Department (BCED), signed in March 2018, the WCO provides to BCED an ongoing support to enhance Intelligence driven Risk Management capabilities. Thus, the WCO conducted an assessment of the progress under way as well as delivered a second Workshop on Risk Assessment and Selectivity from 13 to 17 May 2019 in Nassau, Bahamas. The workshop was attended by 11 officials from risk analysis in port, airport and other units.
The Workshop main focus was to assess the progress made by BCED in the area of Risk Management and further boost the institutional capacity of the BCED to effectively implement risk assessment, profiling and targeting methodologies. This workshop was also to provide BCED enough capacity to ensure sustainability of the implementation of Risk Management in the longer term.
During the various sessions of the 5 day workshop, participants examined the risk management compendium and various WCO tools and instruments. The theoretical sessions coupled with hands-on practical exercises and case studies provided the participants the techniques in applying intelligent- driven Risk Management within the organization. The participants found the new knowledge acquired very relevant for their daily work.
