WCO diagnostic mission to the Customs Administration of Suriname

At the request of the Customs Administration of Suriname and with the support of the Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF) of Korea, the WCO conducted a comprehensive and holistic assessment of Suriname Customs readiness to implement  WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) along with the overall functionalities of the Administration.  The dates of the mission were 14 to 19 October 2019 and it was carried out in the capital of the country, Paramaribo. Suriname is the newest member of the WCO.  Suriname is focusing it current efforts on the reform  modernization of the organisation

The mission was conducted under the framework of the WCO Mercator Program and included discussions with all the relevant departments in the Suriname Customs Administration along with pertinent stakeholders from both the public sector and the business community.    

Through effective engagement with Suriname officials, the WCO team was able to complete a comprehensive assessment of the current state of the administration and its TFA implementation actions, highlighting some areas where further capacity building and technical assistance support is required.

In collaboration with the Customs Administration of Suriname, the WCO will support Suriname’s efftorts in these areas and also ensure its readness to meet the demands of Customs in the XXI century.
