With the aim to provide support to the Customs Administration of Colombia (DIAN) on reinforcing its integrity practices, specifically focused on the Customs’ Code of Ethics, the WCO held a remote mission from 15 to 19 November 2021. Organised on the initiative of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP) and under the auspices of the WCO Mercator Programme, this mission involved around 20 DIAN officers in charge of human resources development and integrity measures from headquarters and Customs officer throughout Colombia, along with WCO experts.
The core objective of the mission was for the WCO to review the progress made by the Customs Administration on the recommendations provided during the Mercator scoping mission held back in 2019, review the current code of conduct and strengthen capacities aimed to secure a robust Ethical Code and improve the overall level of transparency.
The WCO Experts took note on the main initiatives and actions put in place by the DIAN, provided recommendations, and identified next steps to ensure continuous improvement on such important topic. During early 2022 an in-country mission will be held to further support the DIAN on the implementation of integrity measures.
