On 23 November, as part of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP)’s Light-Touch Intervention in Guatemala and under the auspices of the Mercator Programme, the WCO conducted a follow-up Assistance on the Revised Kyoto Convention (RKC) accession, for the benefit of the Customs Administration of Guatemala. With that intervention, the long-term goal of the GTFP’s is to strengthen Guatemala’s capacity to address international trade challenges through accession and compliance with the RKC.
This assistance allowed the WCO experts to review the progress made by the Customs Administration pertaining to the recommendations issued as a result of the implementation of the RKC assessment tool, with the support of a WCO RKC Technical and Operational Advisor. Based on the progress made, a dialogue linked to the next steps towards the RKC Accession was organized.
On the grounds of the information collected through a short yet dense one-day session, the experts were pleased with the progress made and concluded that no additional adjustments were needed with regard to the previously established roadmap.
