After welcoming Serbia as the fifth fully-fledged beneficiary country of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP) in October 2020, the WCO conducted a successful virtual Mercator stocktaking mission to the Customs administration of Serbia from 25th to 29th January 2021.
On this occasion, the WCO team delivered a tailor-made assessment with the main objective to take stock of the state of play of current processes and procedures within the administration, in particular with regard to compliance with the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement (WTO TFA). This mission, organised under the auspices of the WCO Mercator Programme, also aimed at identifying potential areas of future support from the GTFP.
Based on the fruitful exchanges and effective collaboration throughout the mission, next steps will also include confirmation of the priority topics for the next series of interventions. A workshop set at a later stage will focus on developing a specific Work Plan for the Programme, with the objective to enhance national compliance on trade facilitation in Serbia. Implementation of all activities under this Work Plan will be supported by the GTFP over the next 2 years.
