21 мая 2021

At the invitation of Turkish Customs, the WCO Secretary General, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, spoke at the opening of the First Online International Customs and Trade Conference held in Turkey on 20 May 2021. He described the response by Customs and the WCO to “Global Trade during and after Pandemic”, which formed the focus of discussions at the Conference.

Many representatives of Turkish trade associations and academia participated in the event and discussed the way forward for Customs and trade to contribute to the post-pandemic recovery.

Secretary General Mikuriya underlined the importance of Turkey keeping its borders open, given its position at the crossroads of global supply chains for multi-modal means of transport.  He considered Customs-Business partnerships in Turkey, as seen at the Conference, to be vital for overcoming the negative effects of COVID-19 and for working together to ensure the recovery, renewal and resilience of supply chains.

The Deputy Minister of Trade and Head of Turkish Customs, Mr. Riza Tuna Turagay, opened the Conference and expressed his commitment to modernizing Customs and supporting trade in order to boost the region’s economic development.
