From 26 April to 6 May 2021, the World Customs Organization (WCO) delivered a virtual Mercator stocktaking mission to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, in the framework of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP)and under the auspices of the WCO Mercator Programme.
This Mercator mission was focused on taking stock of the current state of play of the State Customs Service of Ukraine on the implementation of trade facilitation measures with regards to the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement (WTO TFA). Through a series of interviews and working sessions with the various Customs units, other border agencies, as well as the private sector, the WCO team was able to establish the baseline for the GTFP and potential areas of support were identified.
This first mission was organised as part of the GTFP’s multi-year activities programme in Ukraine, for the 2021-2022 period. Thanks to the effective collaboration between the State Customs Service of Ukraine and the WCO throughout the mission, next steps should now include confirmation of the priority areas, followed by the development of a work plan for the GTFP assistance to Ukraine based on the agreed areas of support.
