A WCO Sub-regional Middle Management Development (MMD) train-the-trainer pilot workshop for the East and Southern African (ESA) region was held from 25 April to 6 May 2022 in Mombasa, Kenya, under the WCO-ESA Project II funded by the Finnish Government. Nineteen Customs officer from Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe and the ESA Regional Office for Capacity Building attended the workshop.
The objective of this pilot workshop was to train prospective trainers capable of supporting the implementation of the MMD training programme at national and regional level, as well as, pilot the MMD material. During the workshop the participants delivered the training material, exchanged information, and shared their experience as middle managers.
The MMD is the new third core element of the WCO LMD Programme and addresses middle managers of Customs administrations. It aims to expand the knowledge and understanding of modern management of middle managers, by developing in them the appropriate behaviour and attitude of a modern manager and by equipping them with a set of fundamental skills necessary to manage themselves, teams, stakeholders and the organizational strategy and culture on a daily basis.
The workshop concluded successfully with positive feedback from the participants who greatly appreciated the information and insights received from the facilitators and from each other.
