From 9 to 13 October 2022, within the framework of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP), the WCO delivered a 5-day technical assistance mission through a Risk Management Workshop for the Jordan Customs Department (JDC).
During the workshop, the WCO experts reinforced the participants’ understanding of the WCO Risk Management Compendium and Immediate Release Guidelines. The challenges and specific risks of e-commerce and expedited shipments were also reviewed. Moreover, the experts provided case studies and Member practices, highlighting lessons learned to issue recommendations for further enhancing risk management, specifically concerning air cargo.
Based on the outcomes of the practical exercises and active discussions, the participants developed a Risk Management Plan that provides clear direction and steps for ensuring effective control of high-risk shipments while implementing the efficient and simplified procedure allowing for expedited release of goods entered through air cargo facilities.
This workshop was the second successful national workshop delivered under the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP) since the kick-off in Jordan in May 2022. The Jordan Customs Department, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the WCO are highly engaged in improving the country’s compliance with the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and supporting the national efforts to foster economic development, enhancing the investment climate and national competitiveness.
