From 18 to 19 April 2023, the WCO, within the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP) framework, organised a study visit for the Customs Administration of Colombia (DIAN) to the National Superintendence of Customs and Taxes of Peru (SUNAT) to strengthen DIAN’s capacities on Customs Laboratory management through the exchange of best practices and experiences.
During the visit, the participants enhanced their understanding of the challenges towards improving testing procedures and implementing international laboratory quality standards. They also analyzed techniques for combating customs fraud, taking into consideration compliance with Article 5.3. of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA).
The Central Laboratory of SUNAT is an accredited WCO regional laboratory and a well-equipped test center that follows the guidelines and international standards set forth in the WCO’s Customs Laboratory Guide. It is regarded as one of the most advanced laboratories in the Americas region, particularly in terms of equipment and infrastructure.
With this activity, the WCO and the GTFP continue making further contributions to increase cooperation among the Customs Administrations of the region. The WCO expresses appreciation to SUNAT for their collaborative approach and hospitality.
