From June 12 to 16, 2023, with facilitation support through the WCO Anti-Corruption & Integrity Promotion (A-CIP) Programme, the Mozambique Revenue Authority (AT) organized a series of meetings with government border management agencies, Customs brokers associations, various Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Shipping companies, to jointly find solutions to corruption in the country.

This series of workshops held in Maputo, Beira and Nakala contributed in advancing the AT’s objectives under the A-CIP Programme, in particular, to improve mutual trust and cooperation between the private sector and Customs. This workshop was a follow-up to an activity conducted in October 2022, during which stakeholders presented a number of issues that, in their view, needed attention to help in the fight against corruption and the promotion of integrity. 

During the meetings, AT officials shared with key stakeholders the work done since then on the most important issues brought to their attention. The participants actively and constructively shared their views on the achievements to date and identified new points of interest in order to move forward together in the fight against corruption.

With the support of WCO A-CIP Experts, emphasis was placed on the importance of leveraging the ten key factors of the WCO Revised Arusha Declaration and the WCO Gender Equality initiative from an integrity perspective. Finally, the results of the second iteration of the Customs Integrity Perception Survey (CIPS) conducted in Mozambique earlier this year were extensively discussed to identify areas that require consolidation or improvement.
