From 12 to 16 June 2023, the World Customs Organization (WCO) delivered an Integrity Development Workshop for the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan (SCC) under the auspices of the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP). The 5-day capacity building workshop focused on promoting integrity in the SCC.
During the event, the WCO experts highlighted the importance of using the WCO instruments and tools to address the lack of integrity or combat corruption in Customs. Furthermore, the experts shared with the participants a number of international best practices in different areas of integrity.
Throughout the workshop, the WCO experts noted Uzbekistan’s efforts to automate customs processes and the ongoing digital transformation covering multiple customs areas, including risk management, human resources, data analytics and others, all of which efforts certainly contribute to the reduction of corruption risks.
The WCO expressed its continued support for anti-corruption efforts from the Customs Administrations in order to respond effectively to today’s challenges posed by corruption, as the WCO strongly believes that integrity is essential for a country’s growth and economic prosperity.
