From 14 to 18 May 2023, within the SECO-WCO Global Trade Facilitation Programme (GTFP) framework, the World Customs Organization (WCO) facilitated a workshop on Expedited Shipments for the Jordan Customs Department (JCD) at the Regional Training Center in Amman, Jordan.
The 5-day mission aimed at aligning the draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Processing Expedited Shipments with Article 7.8 of the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and with the WCO Immediate Release Guidelines (IRG).
The activity benefitted from the participation of 15 Customs officials who, together with the WCO experts, engaged in an intense discussion and worked on the revision of the existing procedure for expedited shipments. The newly developed SOP is expected to standardize the expedited release of goods entered through air cargo facilities, fostering trade facilitation, especially for courier shipments, low-value consignments, e-commerce, and goods requiring immediate release by Customs.
The SECO-WCO GTFP kicked off its light-touch intervention in Jordan in May 2022, and a series of assistance activities have been delivered to develop the JCD internal capacity for the expedited release of goods entered through air cargo facilities while maintaining adequate control through appropriate risk management.
