Foreign trainees attending the Belgian Customs School visited the Headquarters of the World Customs Organization (WCO) on 28 April 2023 and talked about their role as agents of change and actors in capacity building within their administrations, during a session devoted to the people development programme.
To complement the comprehensive training received during the 10-month programme at the Belgian Customs School, this group of French-speaking Customs officers from certain administrations in the East and Southern Africa region (Comoros, Djibouti and Rwanda) and the West and Central Africa region (Benin, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Republic of the Congo) were able to benefit from regular presentations about the WCO’s main tools and instruments, and about key topics for African Customs administrations such as capacity building, integrity, gender equality and diversity, enforcement and enforcement-related operations and tools, facilitation and Customs procedures instruments, the Harmonized System, Customs valuation and Rules of Origin, with special emphasis on the African Continental Free Trade Area.
