The World Customs Organization (WCO) delivered a national workshop on Customs valuation in Guatemala City, Guatemala, from 26 to 30 August 2024 with financial support from the United States Department of Agriculture. The workshop aimed to strengthen the Customs valuation capacity of Guatemala Customs.
The workshop was facilitated by two WCO expert trainers and attended by twenty officials from the Customs Valuation Unit and the Customs Intelligence Department. The main objective was to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding of the WTO Customs Valuation Agreement (Agreement).
During this five-day workshop, a variety of technical topics related to Customs valuation were covered, including the transaction value method, adjustments under Article 8 of the Agreement (particularly for royalties and licence fees), related party transactions, alternative valuation methods, best practices for Customs valuation control, and advance rulings. Recent instruments adopted by the Technical Committee on Customs Valuation were also shared with the participants.
The participants had the opportunity to present and discuss several practical cases encountered in their daily work, which allowed them to effectively apply the knowledge acquired during the workshop.
In her closing remarks, the Head of the Technical Management Department of Goods, Ms. Mariana Isset Morales Chávez, highlighted the importance of this training for the participants and for the entire institution. She expressed her gratitude to the facilitators, organizers, and WCO Secretariat, and conveyed her hope for future training sessions with continued support from the WCO.
