The 71st Meeting of the Data Model Projects Team (DMPT) convened in a hybrid format on 31 January 2025 at the World Customs Organization (WCO) Headquarters in Brussels. 130 participants from WCO Members and external stakeholders registered to participate in the meeting. In preparation for the meeting, a Focus Group session was held from 27 to 30 January 2025 to facilitate and refine issues for detailed discussions during the DMPT plenary session.
The meeting opened with remarks from Özlem Soysanli, the Acting Deputy Director in charge of Procedures and Facilitation, who emphasized the crucial role of the WCO Data Model (DM) in adapting to the evolving dynamics of global trade. The Acting Deputy Director highlighted the importance of collaboration and active participation to enhance the WCO DM’s adaptability while also addressing the complexities of international trade.
The DMPT reviewed the Data Maintenance Requests (DMRs), whose business needs were approved for inclusion in the WCO DM. These DMRs reflect the ongoing evolution of the DM to better meet the needs of the global Customs community.
The DMPT also advanced discussions on the Advance Passenger Information (API) dataset and its alignment with the Booking and Reservation Information/Passenger Name Record (BRI/PNR) dataset. Delegates provided recommendations to refine the API Message Implementation Guide (MIG), ensuring consistency and interoperability with the BRI/PNR dataset.
Additionally, the DMPT reviewed the draft FIATA electronic Bill of Lading (eFBL) MyIP, based on the FIATA dataset. Delegates noted the potential use of the FIATA eFBL MyIP as a tool for implementing pilot projects and practical applications. This initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between Customs administrations and international organizations to further enhance global trade facilitation.
The DMPT also assessed the progress on implementing the DMPT Work Programme for 2023-2025. Delegates endorsed updates to the Programme, ensuring alignment with the evolving needs of the Customs community.
Brendan O'Hearn, Acting Director Compliance and Facilitation Directorate, delivered the closing remarks, expressing gratitude for the active participation and engagement of all attendees. He emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration and anticipated further progress and developments at the next DMPT meeting.
The next meeting of the DMPT will be held on 16 May 2025.
